Job Description:
The Senior Electrician is a leadership role within the electrical trade, specializing in one or more of the following areas:
Electrical Workshop
Electrical Projects
Electrical Automation
Electrical Alignment
Electrical HVAC
This position requires advanced technical skills and the ability to lead, coach, and guide less experienced tradespeople. The Senior Electrician ensures all electrical and instrumentation work is performed to high-quality, auditable standards in compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
⚙️ Key Responsibilities:
Read and interpret technical drawings, work orders, and schedules.
Perform electrical and instrumentation tasks including motor dismantling, overhauling, testing, and rewinding.
Use precision tools like dial gauges and laser alignment equipment.
Repair motor starters, controllers, switchboards, and wiring systems.
Lead and coach a team to meet production targets safely and efficiently.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Minimize rework and waste through careful monitoring and inspection.
Serve as a role model for safe behavior and best practices.
🛠️ Work Experience Required:
Minimum 4 years of experience in electrical troubleshooting within the shipyard or marine industry.
Experience in reading and executing electrical diagrams.
Hands-on experience with AC/DC systems, motor winding, HV/LV switchboards, cable termination, and alignment tools.
Knowledge of HVAC systems and refrigeration repair is an advantage.
Proven ability to lead a team and mentor junior staff.
🎓 Qualifications:
Primary education
Trade Skills Certificate in Electrical Work
Technical course in electrical systems
🔧 Technical Competencies:
AC/DC voltage systems
Electrical measuring instruments (multimeter, clamp meter, insulation tester)
Cable glanding, termination, and color codes
Motor and alternator assembly, disassembly, and testing
Laser alignment and dial gauge use
HVAC and refrigeration systems
Hazard identification and mitigation
